Just for fun, a few nights ago I went through a bunch of old school papers. I ran across something from my 6th birthday; my kindergarten teacher asked a bunch of questions of each of us on our birthdays, and wrote down the answers to put in a folder. Some of them made me laugh, and some made me marvel at how things have changed in the past (nearly) 20 years. I copied the answers below, with some commentary (because I can't resist commentary).
- Favorite color: pink (Definitely no longer the case; my closet attests to my love of blue and green.)
- Favorite food: hot dogs (Not sure I could pick one favorite food now, but hot dogs are no longer at the top of my list.)
- Favorite clothes: my Harmony shirt (I have no recollection of this shirt.)
- A food I do not like: salad (I now eat salad happily and voluntarily.)
- I like to: get presents (Who doesn't?)
- I do not like to: clean in the living room (Cleaning my apartment is now a weekly ritual that I kinda enjoy.)
- My favorite story: chapter books--sometimes words and no pictures (I couldn't pick a favorite book then, and I couldn't pick one now.)
- What I will be when I grow up: an artist (Aaaaaand I became a scientist; good thing too, because my drawing skills have stayed roughly the same (or possibly gotten worse) since I was 6.)
- Where I would like to go: a second time to Disneyland (Make that a 4th time now, along with several other places.)
- It makes me happy when: I get to see my grandma and grandpa (Still makes me happy to see anyone in my family :) )
- It makes me mad when: people punch me. (I have no clue where this answer came from. I mean, I would be mad if someone punched me, but no one did or does.)
- It makes me sad when: I fall down. (True story.)
- My favorite animal is: a bird--a blue bird. (I hadn't yet been introduced to corgis, or else I'm sure I'd have picked them.)
- An animal that scares me is: a shark (Shark Week both fascinates and terrifies me.)
- A nice thing about me is: that I can do the monkey bars. (Bet I still could, too.)
- Something easy to do is: math pages at school. (Sadly, math only got harder from there...)
- Something hard to do is: to climb a tree (Clearly my lack of athleticism and upper body strength manifested itself early on.)
And just for fun, here's a picture of (roughly) 6-year-old me:

| Please ooh and aah over the lovely dress my mom made. ;) |
And me now(ish):

| I think 6-year-old me would have had a hard time fitting in here too. |
Could that harmony shirt have been the one from children's choir? Oh, and re the dress--"OO-oo-oo-h, a-a-a-a-a-h!
ReplyDeleteTimes do indeed change. Some of your favorites have swung from one extreme to the other. By the way, you wouldn't necessarily need to draw well to be an artist these days. Just get a piece of paper and splatter paint on it. . .
