Spring Break: Part the Second

So, picking up where I left off last time:

Tuesday: We left in the morning to drive to Savannah, where I had never been but wanted to go (is it really horrible that part of the reason I wanted to go was because of a Relient K song? I mean, it's a great song....). The drive was gorgeous, and we kept checking the temperature as we drove along. By the time we got there, it was 75 degrees out and very sunny....the perfect weather for two girls who were tired of snow, rain, and freezing temperatures. :) We drove through part of Savannah on our way to Tybee Island, where we laid out on the beach for a couple hours. Amazingly, I did not burn. :) I also saw the Atlantic for the first time! I think it was about as warm in the winter/early spring as the Pacific is in the summer. ;) We made our way to another part of the island to see the lighthouse there, only to discover that the lighthouse is closed on Tuesdays (which it definitely did not say on their website...). We took some pictures and headed back to our hotel. We ran out to grab a quick dinner...perhaps we moved too fast because I managed to twist my ankle quite nicely going down some stairs. Thankfully the restaurant was fairly close by, and after eating quickly we walked (or hobbled, in my case) about 4 blocks to a cemetery where we met with a group to take a walking "ghost tour" of part of Savannah. My ankle behaved itself pretty well the whole time, and we learned all kinds of fun cool stories about ghost legends in the city. They weren't very scary so we were able to sleep very well that night. :)

Wednesday: We woke up a little later in the morning, grabbed a quick breakfast, packed up, and headed out. We drove around parts of downtown Savannah, which was really pretty...I think I'm going to have to go back there someday for a longer period of time (although not when the mosquitoes are around...hearing people describe them makes me fear for my life). After that, we drove down to St. Augustine, Florida. We stopped at the welcome center just over the Florida border, mostly so I could take a picture with the "Welcome to Florida" sign, since I'd never been to there. We detoured into Jacksonville for a bit, trying to kill some time so we could check into our hotel on time...that was a fun adventure! Had some fun taking pictures from the car, and saw some really random parts of the town. When we finally made it to St. Augustine, we checked in and walked across the street to the beach! Since it was later afternoon by this point, the beach was a little chilly, but still very nice. We stayed in that night, ordering some local pizza (after extensive online research) for dinner.

Thursday: Not much really happened. Woke up, took our time getting ready, and started driving out of town in a rainstorm. We hit some pretty bad patches at times...at one point we pulled off the freeway and found a church parking lot where we sat to wait out some of the storm. The worst had cleared by the time we got to Augusta though, and we made it back to Kaitlin's house. We later went to a prayer group where we talked, prayed, and had breakfast for dinner. :)

Friday: Slept in quite a bit since we were both really tired, then went to Starbucks in our pjs. :) (It was a drive-thru...) We had lunch with two of Kaitlin's cousins, traded pictures we'd taken, and then had dinner and played Scrabble with another cousin, Jacob. I was pretty pleased with my 2nd place finish, especially since I beat the English major...but I also got pretty lucky, so I can't take too much credit. :)

I may or may not blog about today or tomorrow....but be assured, pictures will be forthcoming, definitely on Facebook and probably some here too. :)

  1. Just think, that was probably the last spring break you'll ever take.
