Well, I got the cord for the camera (thanks Mom!), so I thought I'd take up some room here with pictures and stories about my trip to Leavenworth with Aunt Carol...which was 2 weeks ago? I think? Leavenworth is a Bavarian-style town about 2.5-3 hours away from where I'm staying, and it's a really fun place to look around, and shop, and take pictures. It's in a beautiful area, settled in among the mountains. We went on a day where it was cool in the shade and hot in the sun, and was just a tad cloudy, and it was really nice.
Ok, picture time!! :)

This was taken while driving there...the clouds were making these amazing crazy formations that just looked really cool. I don't think the pictures really do it justice.

More while driving...you can just see the mountains hiding behind the clouds and the trees.

Funny little church we passed by...it was just sort of sitting there, between some other buildings. It had the tiniest parking lot I've ever seen too.

These lampposts were new (according to Aunt Carol). The flowers in the baskets were very pretty, and blooming like crazy.

Don't you just feel like skiing? :) Actually, there was a nifty set of stores in there, including a doll shop with really inexpensive but beautiful dolls, and a candy store. I was in hog heaven.

I didn't post the close-up of the sign, but this is the Hotel Edelweiss. No joke.

Nifty picture of a tower. Snapped this while we were eating lunch on a nearby bench.

What trip to a Bavarian town would be complete without a band complete with accordion?! I should point out here that we missed the accordion festival by one week. Darn.

And just to show that all the crazy people do not live in CA, here we have a dancing fairy woman. Wearing a mask. A man seriously chased us down the street just to ask if we agreed that she was crazy.

This shirt is the story of my childhood. I really should have bought it.

Corgis!! I was so excited to see these in the store that I had to take a picture. Aren't they cute?! If one of them had been tri-colored, it would be sitting next to me now. :)

Another nifty building. The whole town looks kind of like this. It's awesome.

There really is one everywhere. But this one is a bit harder to spot, since it doesn't have it's usual sign.

And, just to finish off the day, on the way home, I caught a picture of the service station shaped like a tea kettle. I don't know why anyone would build this, but I like it!
Ok, thanks for making it through this really long post. If you still want to see more pictures, I'll post these and others on Facebook and Flickr at some point.
Hmm...a crazy dancing fairy woman. Are you sure you weren't in CA? :)
ReplyDeleteOOooh, Starbucks!! Awesome!
Hey, I've been to Leavenworth! Hope you're having fun this summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened with the serendipitous substance?
The seredipitous substance, as you so beautifully put it, has been proverbially chucked out the window. :) When my mentor, who has done tons of work in organic chem, can't figure out what it is, that's a bad sign.
ReplyDeleteHow did you and Ariel find my blog? I'm very glad you did, but curious none the less. ;)
We linked to it from Laura's blog when she left a comment on Mom's blog.
